Opportunities in the GCC countries
- Kuwait for example, as a result of the 1991 Iraqi war, is now has the largest contaminated site on the planet, with underground water results subject to the danger of being contaminated by petroleum. Kuwait currently has over 800 Million Metric tons of contaminated soil.
- Saudi Arabia, being the largest producer of Oil in the world, has contamination to the surrounding soil resulting from the day to day production and drilling for crude oil and, the ongoing production of oil lakes are always in dire need of the Sludge Separation process.
- Exact numbers of contaminated sites in Saudi Arabia are not available to us today, but we can estimate it by using a Remediation project in the Alberta Providence of Canada, keeping in mind that the Alberta Providence is much smaller and produces much less crude oil.
Example of Alberta Providence in Canada
- Approximately 500,000 wells are active in Alberta alone
- 45,000-50,000 holes drilled per year in Alberta
- Over 6,000,000 newly contaminated Tons of soil is the result of oil production in Alberta
- There are over 2,000,000 reported contaminated land sites in the world today, each with different sizes (aside from what is not reported)
- Each and every drilled hole will contaminate anywhere between 15-300 yards of soil
Conclusions
- Any Oil producing country is a prime candidate for having a large amount of contaminated soil produced continuously as a by-product of producing and refining crude oil.
- There is an ongoing increase of oil lakes requiring constant separation to turn them into commercial grade crude oil.
